About Us

Travelers Aid was formed as a resource for immigrants, women and travelers who were desperately in need of support. Because of the drastic changes in our society, the needs of the people we serve are much more serious than they were 75 years ago. With this in mind, our programs and services expand on a yearly basis to better serve our community. The underline thread of all Travelers Aid’s programs is the in-depth Case Management provided to each client. This holistic approach is designed to stabilize and empower individuals and families to become self-sufficient.

Through our unique comprehensive, collaborative case management programs, the first in the State of Michigan, we follow up with the services necessary for each client’s recovery. Working with families, as well as individuals, The programs integrate the resources of agencies networked together for the long term.  The primary goal is to help motivated at-risk and homeless people become self-sufficient and independent.  We meet with the clients at our service center, at auxiliary sites around town or at their homes or shelters.

Travelers Aid also operates “transitional” housing for homeless individuals relearning the life skills necessary to remain self-sufficient.  The Supportive Housing Opportunities Program helps participants develop appropriate frames of reference to celebrate life and reclaim independence.

Travelers Aid, internal job and educational training service, Travelers Aid Training and Employment (T.A.T.E.), provides assessments, interpersonal skills, employability skills, and computer training for those participants interested in job readiness skills and employment placement.

At our office Downtown, Travelers Aid assists homeless and at-risk families and individuals. We do not bandage the crisis without treating the very reasons that brought it on by working with the client to find the correct solution.

At Metro Airport, Travelers Aid helps 250 runaways find their way back home and introduces 150 adopted foreign babies to their American families.
